Obituary

Wilbur F. "Bud" Thomas, age 84 of Sanford, died Monday (4/29/2019) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.  He was born in Lee County, son of the late Stacy Sheppard Thomas and Annie McLeod Thomas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Hazel Simmons and Gladys Marion and brother Edwin Thomas.  He was a lifetime member of Shallow Well Church and was a farmer for many years.  "Bud" was a NASCAR racing enthusiast and served as the first Crew Chief for JD McDuffie Racing.   He was honored with a brick at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, inscribed Wilbur F. "Bad Eye" Thomas, 1 st Crew Chief, JD McDuffie Racing.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Saturday morning at the Shallow Well Church with Rev. Robert Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in the Shallow Well Church Cemetery.  Surviving is his wife Bobbie Lee Seagroves Thomas of the home.  Daughter Sandra Marie Thomas and husband Jeffrey Lipack of Fuquay Varina, NC.  Son Jimmy Gray Thomas and wife Charlotte of Mooresville, NC.  Sister Myrtle Thomas of Carthage, NC and grandchildren Hannah Elizabeth Thomas, Samuel Lee Thomas and Alexis Kathryn Thomas.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.  Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
