William Avery "Billy" Hutchens Jr., age 75 of Sanford, passed away on Tuesday (10/3/2023) at his home.  He was born on January 9, 1948, son of the late William Avery Hutchens Sr. and Rachel Buchanan Hutchens.  Billy was a Veteran of the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany.  He was a master carpenter and loved to farm.  He was a member of several antique tractor clubs and was a member of Cumnock Baptist Church.  Billy also served on the pit crew for JD McDuffie's Racing Team and was a fan of NASCAR.  Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Jean Nickens Hutchens of the home.  Sons, Kevin Bert Hutchens and wife Kimberly of Sanford, NC and William Avery Hutchens III and wife Sharon of Sanford, NC.  Brother, Bobby Charles Hutchens and wife Rosie of Sanford, NC.  Grandchildren, Matthew Hutchens and wife, Maddie, Luke Hutchens, Brittany Barnes and husband Eric, Justin Hutchens and fiancé, Mystikal, and great-grandchildren, Wyatt, McKenzie and Maci.  The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday (10/07/2023) at 11:00am Broadway Town Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Dowdy and Rev.
