William "Bill" Kenyon Welch, age 72, of Broadway, died Monday (4/16/2012) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was born in Yadkin County, son of the late Homer Columbus Welch and Juanita Frye Welch. He was a graduate of East Bend High School, the Air Force NCO Academy and Central Carolina Community College. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, retired from the United States Air Force and retired from Pentair Pool Products. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Member of the American Legion, the Seven Seas Club and a lifetime member of the USS Constellation Association. He attended Crossroads Ministries in Broadway. Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm Thursday at Crossroads Ministries with Rev. John Sauls officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors in the Broadway Town Cemetery. Surviving are his wife Clemellyn Hunter Welch of the home; Daughter Wendy Welch Bryan and husband Carl of Broadway, NC; Brother Brent Welch and wife Sandy of Winston Salem, NC; Sister Rita Welch and husband Mitch Malone of Winston Salem, NC and grandchildren Pait Bryan and Carrie Ellen Bryan. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and other times at the family home, 208 Crystal Drive Broadway. Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.
