Obituary

William Barney Stone, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  He was 81 years old.  Born on February 3, 1944, at home in Lee County, William was the firstborn child of the late Burnice and Eunice Stone.  Raised with a strong work ethic, William spent his early years as a sharecropper and logger, helping support his family while building a foundation of hard work and determination.  In 1963, William began his long career at Boise Cascade, where he worked as a maintenance supervisor for 24 years, ultimately retiring in 1987.  After his retirement,  William turned his entrepreneurial spirit towards owning and operating Campbell's Pawn Shop and Trading Post in downtown Jonesboro, a business he ran for 10 years.  Seeking new opportunities, he expanded and relocated to Horner Boulevard, where the business thrived for another 15 years. William later explored the car dealership industry before retiring for good in 2011.  Though he enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors, William was never one to take long vacations, as he always felt there was work to be done.  His steadfast nature and dedication to his family and work will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.  William leaves behind his daughters, Brenda Faye Stone, Debbie Lynn Stone, and Paulette Michelle Harmon all of Sanford; grandchildren, Bryan Campbell, Megan Campbell, Richard Crouch, Erica Campbell, Farren Lynn Welch, Kaylynn Parchman, Daniella Johnson, Franchesca Gautier (aka Baby Wilma); and 11 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brother, Harvey Lee (Lucy), and sister, Sylvia Nunnery (Ricky Lee) both of Sanford.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pauline Stone, his daughter, Linda Campbell, and siblings, Lee, Charles, Steven, Roger, Bennie, Harry, Charlene Eddins and Mabel Watson.  A service to celebrate William's life will be held at 2pm on Friday (6/20/2025) at Poplar Springs Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family invites friends and loved ones to gather and share memories on Thursday (6/19/2025) from 6-8pm at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made Mr. Stone's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.    Online condolences can be made at www.smithfuneralhomebroadway.com  Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home, Broadway Inc.
