William Thomas "Tommy" George, age 71 of the Corinth Community in Moncure, died Thursday (12/29/2016) at his home. He was born in Lee County, son of the late William Ollie George and Gracie Holt George. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sister Bonnie George and Brothers Billy and Sam George. Tommy was a graduate of Moncure High School, Class of 1963 and had worked as a Construction Superintendent with Stephens Center/Asco Builders in Raleigh. He was a member of Christian Chapel Church where served as a Trustee and was an active member of the Christian Chapel Men's Group. He enjoyed remodeling homes, doing yard work and decorating for Christmas. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm Saturday at the Christian Chapel Church with Rev. Steve Johnson and Rev. George Stallings officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving is his wife, Harriet Dickens George of the home; Daughter Angie George Harris and husband Ken of Moncure, and son Chris George and wife Carla of Moncure. Sisters Carolyn Joyce Hearn and husband Ralph of New Hill, NC and Betty Jean Goodwin and husband William of New Hill, NC. Brother in laws Edd Dickens and wife Betsy of West Jefferson, NC and Henry Dickens and wife Shirley of Asheboro, NC. Grandchildren Elizabeth Spivey and husband Kenneth of Aberdeen, NC and Christian George, Gracie George, Abbie George, Ashley Harris, Gunnar Harris and Alyssa Harris all of Moncure. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.
