Yvonne V. Kelly was born in Broadway in 1936. She was the daughter of Raeford and Thelma Vance. She attended Broadway School finishing all twelve grades and then attended Appalachian College where she majored in elementary education. She taught elementary education, and teaching was her "forte" and she was excellent doing that. Donald Kelly and Yvonne married in 1958 and spent many years in Charleston, SC, in pursuit of his occupation. They never forgot Broadway, because that was home. Vera and Clayborne McNeill, who raised Yvonne would have been happy at her many accomplishments. Yvonne had two daughters, Tammi and her husband Bob Riedel and their dogs, and Lorri the younger daughter, married David Simmons and they share one son, Evan who plays tennis very well. Yvonne suffered some physical setbacks in later life, but she was still active in life being a mother, wife of 70 years and a friend who was a very good person. People leave footprints in life and Yvonne left many of those as a mother, grandmother, Christian doing good deeds and as a loving wife. The family will receive friends on Saturday (3/7/2026) from 2:30pm-3:30pm at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway, North Carolina. Funeral service will be held at 3:30pm at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Garland Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Broadway Town Cemetery.
